Case study

To provide customers with an optimal price-performance ratio for high quantities and good scalability, control, regulation, and several other functions were implemented using a microprocessor. It contains a robust software package that offers increased flexibility and safety functionalities such as short-circuit current limitation, over-temperature shutdown, and extended voltage monitoring. 

To achieve a high power factor of approximately 0.95, a “Flyback-PFC technology” is used, which requires a sluggish control behavior in static conditions. 

Upon detection of load transients at the output, the controller is software-adapted to provide increased dynamics in transient conditions, minimizing dynamic voltage drops. 

In addition to numerous other functions, the device is put into “Skip-Cycle mode” through the microcontroller during idle periods, consuming only 200mW in standby mode to maintain a constant output voltage. 

By employing intelligent valley-switching and high-quality semiconductor technologies, an efficiency of >93% has been achieved. This low power dissipation also keeps the temperature inside the device extremely low, resulting in an exceptionally long lifespan. 

Due to the specific norm requirements of the lighting application, the safety of the application was applied according to EN 61347-2-13 in combination with the luminaire. Harmonic currents were certified according to EN 61000-3-2 Class C.
